Blog Review // Ampersand Photography

{read here}

Ampersand is a beautiful photography blog written by Sarah. In her own words, “I’m a portrait and wedding photographer in the Northern Virginia-ish area. I’m passionate about God, light, people, and love, and obsessed with just about anything pretty, or textured, or vintage. I love photography, and coffee, and meeting new people…and lots of other things.” Sarah’s blog showcases her talent in photography and writing. Her words and pictures are beautiful.

Where to Start

True Love…I woke up this morning to an email from a friend with this link, and the words, “have you watched this yet? my husband just walked in to find me sobbing.” I don’t consider myself much of a crier (though… perhaps I should, because I do cry, and often. just not at the “typical girl things,” like puppies and sunsets and romantic movies and sappy country love songs), so even though I respect this friend, and know that everything she forwards to me is well worth the time to read or watch, I mentally dismissed the impact of the story within that link.

Still, I clicked it, I read the intro, and I began the video. Less than five minutes later I was curled up on the floor in my office sobbing my heart out. Read the rest here

Braxton & Alexa…She’s in dentistry school. He played water polo. They met while attending VirginiaTech— just friends for awhile, but slowly they moved from group hangouts to just them hangouts, and one day discovered they were each others’ best friends, and they were in love, and they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together. They’re the kind of steady people who love nothing more than to be in each others’ presence. When asked about their favorite activity as a couple, Braxton replied, “Anything. Cooking, walking, just sitting around… I enjoy doing anything, as long as I’m doing it with her.” They’re getting married in July, and it’s sure to be a perfect wedding. We did their engagement pictures at VTech, as a tribute to the place where they fell in love. Read the rest here

Joel & Amy…May, 2009: “Dear Lauren, you don’t know me, but a friend of a friend of a friend of your aunt said that I should get in touch with you, as I’m trying to come to Italy sometime this Fall. I’m a photographer trying to partner with some Christian ministries in Rome when I come to visit. Any chance you need some photography work done?” // “Sarah!! We would love to have you!! My roommate Amy is in the States right now, and she’ll be just a couple hours away from you this Summer. You should meet up!” // “Dear Amy, can we do coffee sometime while you’re in the States?” Read the rest here. I might have been slightly biased when picking this post since I know both Amy (she’s the one who originally sent me to Amerpsand when I asked what her favorite photography blogs were…) and Joel because we lived in Italy with them. 😉 Regardless of my connection, however, it is one of the most beautiful weddings I’ve seen on a photo blog!

Whether you enjoy photography, sweet love stories, or beautifully written thoughts on life – and especially if you love all three – take a look at Sarah’s blog! You’ll be glad you did.

Blogs are great ways to be encouraged and inspired, but make sure you aren’t spending too much time reading them. It’s easy to get sucked into the lives of others and start playing the comparison game. I’m starting to do these reviews regularly to provide blogs that will keep your thoughts focused on Jesus and inspire you to use your talents to glorify Him. Let me know what your favorite blogs are and send us your reviews!
