Blog Review // Mod Style Lounge

According to their website, Mod Style Lounge is “a blog about fashion made modest and enhancing natural beauty.” The blog is updated by four staff writers: Sarah, Haylie, Grace, and Erin. I’ve been reading this blog for about a year now and always come away impressed and inspired by their words and pictures. From their “Best of Beauty Week” to their annual “A Girl’s Life Fashion Week” (an online Fashion Show contest), you’ll always find fun things happening over there. :)

Where to Start

The Secret to Being Beautiful: I believe that every girl wants to be beautiful. I also believe that every girl has tried to achieve beauty on her own by wearing the latest fashion and trying to always look her best and impress whoever she walks by. I am guilty as charged. I used to try so hard to please others with how I looked by wearing name brands and trying to mold myself to fit their image. I changed myself so much that I had no idea who I really was. Wardrobe Staples: …how can you avoid buying clothes that will just sit in your closet again? Below are some staples for every woman’s wardrobe that will never go out of style. These items will stay in your outfit rotation for years and always look classy. Each season, you can add a few trendy pieces you like to spice it up. I would suggest spending more on these items below and less on trendy pieces that will go in and out of style quickly. Read the rest here

Clean Out Your Closet for Something Bigger and Better Than Yourself: “Ugh! I have nothing to wear!” This has been said multiple times by yours truly when I open my closet doors and stare into my I-have-a-shopping-addiction closet. Now, if my closet screams that I have a shopping addiction, why would I say that I have nothing to wear? It’s not that I don’t have anything to wear; I just don’t see what I want to wear. I tend to dress with my mood. Read the rest here

Blogs are great ways to be encouraged and inspired, but make sure you aren’t spending too much time reading them. It’s easy to get sucked into the lives of others and start playing the comparison game. I want to start doing blog reviews regularly to provide blogs that will keep your thoughts focused on Jesus and inspire you to use your talents to glorify Him. Let me know what your favorite blogs are and send us your reviews!

The Palm Project

{I am beautiful. Just the way I am. Because of Him.}

Did you know that you’re beautiful? God thinks so! He created you just the way he wanted to.

The KING is enthralled by your beauty; honor him, for he is your LORD. -Psalm 45:11

Two days ago I found out about The Palm Project from via Twitter. The creators Madeleine and Emily just started the project about a week ago and the Facebook page has already caught the attention of many. Why, you ask? Only because every girl has a deep longing in her heart to be valued and treasured by the King of Kings.

We all have imperfections and impurities because we’ve been tainted by sin, but despite our imperfections, we are beautiful because we were created in the image of God (Genesis 1:27) who dearly loves us and sent his Son to die for us even while were still sinners! (Romans 5:8) If we have accepted Christ’s free gift of salvation, then he has set us from sin and given us a new birth through the Holy Spirit. (Titus 3:4-5)

I hope you’re feeling beautiful because you are!

You can make a difference in the lives of your friends and family by showing them with your actions and words that you know they’re beautiful. Take a photo of yourself with the words “I am beautiful” written on the palm of your hand and upload it to Facebook or Twitter to spread the word about The Palm Project and get your friends involved!

Don’t ever forget that God loves you with a love that has no bounds!

The LORD says,
“Then I will heal you of your faithlessness;
my love will know no bounds,
for my anger will be gone forever.”
-Hosea 14:4

“Anybody can find beauty when it’s obvious. Finding subtle beauty and looking for a holy moment in an ordinary day is more of a challenge. And it is usually far more amazing.”

Ordinary Beauty

Every time I read the Bible so many things pop out of me and often I’m overwhelmed with all the jewels of advice I find. One thing, however, has consistently been whispered in my ear: beauty. And not just any kind of beauty, but ordinary beauty. Maybe you’re not familiar with that concept. I know I wasn’t until recently. Or if I was I didn’t think about it. It isn’t some deeply spiritual thought or they key to all your problems. It’s just something to think about it.

Often when you think of the word beauty you think of the obvious things: a sunset on the beach, the girl who sits next to you at school with flawless skin, a bright blue flower. When I think of the word beauty I think of a laugh that comes from deep within, rain gently tapping at my windows, a long-awaited phone-call from a friend. Somehow I find a much deeper, joyful beauty in the little things than the obvious.

I recently started a fabulous book called Paperdoll by Natalie Lloyd. I really like how she puts it: “Anybody can find beauty when it’s obvious. Finding subtle beauty and looking for a holy moment in an ordinary day is more of a challenge. And it is usually far more amazing.”

Tomorrow morning when you wake up, say this verse out-loud: “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” I find that it’s much easier to appreciate the little things in everyday when you start off remembering that it’s God who gave you this day and every little magical beauty that goes with it.

What was ordinarily beautiful about your day today?
